What a great gym! Tons of superb routes, yoga space, work out space and super nice people. And childcare! Would have LOVED that when my kid was young!
Having climbed at almost all the gyms in Colorado, Georgia, and the east coast, I’m very familiar with what a good gym looks like. With that said, I can only speak for myself. First off.. location, location, location. My wife and I had to decide whether to leave from our house in Denver or Boulder. Either way we mapped it.. it was going to take us 30 min (assuming no accidents, stoppage, traffic, or animal crossing). After the 30 min drive.. we arrived at the gym to find it pretty much empty with the exception of a children’s birthday party and a few people who have never climbed before (not really the environment that gets you “psyched” to climb). For two hours, we listened to screaming children yell (“HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUSIE”).. as we were tying to lead climb. Overall, with gyms like Movement And Earth treks, there is no reason to come back. It would be better served by specializing in kids daycare with a climbing wall.
Why open another location in boulder when there is already 3+ I love this gym. Is 10 min away from superior and it offers a short commute for those of us that don’t want to drive 30 min + to boulder/Denver gyms. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Route vary from Easy to difficult and they have a good mix. It gives me the opportunity to grow and get stronger without having other people judge me. I love the community of people here and their support! It gets me “psyched” after climbing for 3 years plus and getting injured I don’t need a community like movement gym were their mostly professionals and their routes are exclusively design for their top climbers and forgetting new climber or season injured climbers. All I can say is that I’m new to the area and I feel welcomed here!
I highly recommend coming here to climb. We also had our 2 kids’ birthday parties here and it was amazing. We really loved how George worked with the kids and all of the staff was so attentive and professional. The kids were happy and exhausted afterwards. What a great place!
Wow, utopias do exist.
Once upon a time, I was an interesting person with interesting pursuits. At least, that’s what I tell myself.
One of these hobbies was rockclimbing, both of the indoor and outdoor variety. And I miss it… a lot. So when we had our date last month, my husband suggested that we check out the new climbing gym nestled in Louisville’s Colorado Technology Center.
Bouldering (without top-outs)? Check.
Top-rope climbing with a few auto-belays sprinkled throughout? Check.
Intimidating routes for lead climbing? Check.
Yoga room, kiddie climbing wall, weight-training area? Check, check, check.
Clean showers, hairdryers, complimentary coffee, affordable childcare? Check times a million.
Seriously, this place has it all. The best part is that it’s not crowded (yet).
I love this gym. It’s only failing is that it isn’t closer to my house. It’s great to go with my kids because they have auto-belays for both short & long routes so I can climb without having another adult to give me a ride. I like that they have snacks and my kids love the “Room of Doom”
Excellent gym. I have had memberships at a number of different climbing gyms over the years. This one is the best I have experienced. First of all, the staff is awesome. They create a truly welcoming space.
The routes are really great and interesting (I mainly climb on ropes). The routes are reset frequently which is awesome. It’s great to have some auto belays. The space is well-designed, and never feels cramped. I love the they have many programs for kids, engage the community and advocate for the Access fund. Everything at this gym simply makes good sense.
My daughter (aged 9) has been taking weekly classes here for about 2 years and really enjoys it. She is an overachiever and picks out the most difficult routes she can. Rock climbing is a good activity for her because it combines physical strength with logic and strategy; she enjoys both the exercise and the mental challenge. She considers bouldering to be boring, and would much rather be up on a rope or belaying someone else. Her teachers praise her for paying attention and following instructions, and she enjoys their teaching. We plan to put her in a week-long outdoor climbing course this summer.
We just celebrated my daughter’s fifth birthday here, and it was amazing! The kids had a blast, and the staff was beyond wonderful. Plus all the guests got a free day pass to come back. I highly recommend EVO!
I wanted to check this place out, but then I found out the person, maybe even the owner, who works there is absolutely terrible. This location is in an industrial zone. I was driving by and saw a dog on the side of the road. I stopped and looked for an owner. No one was there. I called the number on the dog tag and left a message saying I wouldn’t mind making sure the dog is safe if she would just like to pick the dog up later. I live about 20 minutes away. When I was almost home, a woman who works at this location rudely demanded I return her dog because I ‘stole’ it. She even said that she always lets her dog run around like that. I couldn’t believe it. Regardless, I turned around and went all the way back to put this dog back where I found it. She tried calling me back, but I did not want to speak with this rude person. Then she texts me and tells me she called the police! Despite the fact that I already said I would put the dog back where I found it. I called animal services and was told that what she is doing is actually illegal. I asked the police dispatcher to stay on the phone with me because I was questioning this woman’s sanity and wasn’t sure what to expect when I got there. A boy came and took the dog and then the woman and her family came running at my car trying to take pictures!
Moral of the story: Do not try to help dogs found on the side of the road. Also, do not go to Rock’n & Jam, unless you are okay with this sort of behavior. I know they definitely lost my business.
Parking lot is a mess, granted, parents at pickups and drop offs are more concerned about staying in the car than (God forbid!) parking their cars and picking up their kids inside. But I never once saw any communication addressing the issue or asking people to cooperate. It is a no man’s land. Around busy hours, you will get stuck behind people parking by the sidewalk.
We were visiting family in the area so we brought our kids (age 8 and 10) on a hot day outside, and they had a blast. The staff members were so helpful and kind, they showed the kids what to do safely, and then let them go at it on the appropriate courses. I don’t know the technical terms but the ones that allowed them to clip themselves in and come down when they were ready was amazing. They treated the kids like any other climbers, and they were absolute naturals. My husband and I just watched (supervised) in awe. We took a short dinner break across the street at John’s restaurant and bar (AWESOME) and then they went back to climbing until almost 9pm. It was truly one of the best days we have ever had as a family. Oh and then they begged to go back the next day so we went (equally amazing!). Their confidence skyrocketed and they are well on their way to being lifelong climbers. The only issue was that any other gym we go to will pale in comparison to our experience here! Many walls are not that high nor are the gyms as friendly to kids. Really superior facility. Thank you to the whole team! We will definitely be back!
