for anyone that wants a good time on the town with a night that you will not forget with magic in the air, don’t go to roller land. on the other hand, if you’re in the mood for that flashback-to-elementary-school feeling with friends, you might want to check it out.

many birthday and school parties took place at roller land. it really did used to be magical when my best friend brian was on a speedskating team and played roller hockey there too (despite the two massive columns in the middle). I would prop my head on my hands on the short wall watching and marvelling at the the kids who were speedskating (one of which was jondon trevena – a future speedskating olympian who’s parents owned roller land).

when we would go there for parties you could skate to the sparkling disco ball, the hop music, and the girls with poofy hair and scrunchies. the games included red light, green light, limbo, and others. winners would get complimentary food from the concession stand. “those” novice kids wore the roller skates while i wore my own blue-boot, yellow-whelled rollerblade bladerunners while i sported my flat top and turquoise sweater with purple and turquoise elastic-banded pants. before you think about laughing, think about how cool that was at the time…and it was!

roller land is etched in my memory as a good memory. you might want to check it out just so you feel the presense of an olympian speed skater, or you might want to check it out for that flashback good ol’ time. neither you nor your memories will regret making a night of skating at roller land.

When a managing partner {of about 17 years of age and claiming to be part owner} of an establishment contributes to making your birthday party completely miserable, then you’d avoid that establishment, right? We plan on never returning to roller land ever again, and we want to get the word out that they do NOT care about helping parents or kids, they care specifically and only about the $bottom line$.

We’ve gone to numerous birthday parties and events in the past 5 years at roller land, so we’ve had experience with parents walking into rollerland, having not reserved one of the miniature “party” rooms, and not reserving any space for their party but instead setting up at one of the many long tables in the concession area. Since we’ve been part of such parties in the past, we realistically concluded that setting up for an hour at the big and numerous concession tables would be fine.
On 4/3/2011, we walked into roller land with four 9year old girls, some gifts, and a small cake. The “manager” greeted us and asked which room we reserved, to which we replied none, we were just going to briefly set up at one of the empty tables over there. It took us completely and totally off guard {based on past experience and based on this jerk’s attitude} when he said no, you won’t be setting up at those tables, that is not allowed, so you either need to reserve a room, though we don’t have any available, or you’ll need to wait until one comes open. He then insisted that we hand over all of the gifts, cake, etc., and put them on a counter up near the front of the establishment, to which any patron or employee had access. That made no sense whatsoever.

My husband asked when it became a rule that nobody could set up at the concession tables, and the “manager” said that it’s been in effect for at least the last 5 years. My husband said no, that’s not possible, this year we’ve been to one non-reserved birthday party, and numerous ones last year, and setup occurred at one of the available concession tables. When faced with facts, this “manager” had nothing to say except them’s the rules. But when we pointed out that the “rules” of the establishment were not being consistently enforced {for instance, coats and jackets aren’t allowed in the concession area, but the place was absolutely littered with them}, the “manager” insulted my father in law, threw refund money at him, and told us to leave. That’s when my husband put his foot down and said No, we will not leave and take 4 girls off the skate floor and ruin their fun and my daughter’s birthday, all because you can’t behave and get control of yourself.

It’s rather unbelievable, but since my husband kept his cool and maintained control of the emotions flying around, the “manager” conceded to giving us a party room at no charge. So what was the purpose of all the previous nonsense when he ultimately relented of his own volition?

My goal in writing this review is to edify people about what we experienced so that no one else has to experience that horrible display of inconsideration and conspicuous mismanagement. This man directly claimed to be part owner of the establishment, so if a part owner can treat people the way he treated us, what hope does anyone have of being treated fairly, respectfully, and consistently, unless they’re wealthy and can afford all the party rooms they want?

Great place for the whole family. This rink seems to do a great job of maintenance and upgrading each year as opposed to many other rinks I’ve seen that are deteriorating. When my kids don’t feel like skating, they enjoy the playplace and laser maze options. From a skater’s viewpoint, the rink is on the smaller end, but is still very nice, especially since they removed the inflatable play area on one end that used to take up valuable skating square footage.
I’ve also gone to the adult skate on Wednesday nights a few times and it’s always a blast.

Great Family Environment! Clean, edited music, great for kids. We love the $2 wacky Wednesday deal!

It’s a fun place for kids to come except for when it is super crowded! I also thought that the red light green light game with changing of words was ridiculous! It was hard to hear the word play with the microphone!

Although I can appreciate the attempt to have a nostalgic and entertaining roller rink- I was completely dissatisfied by the interactions I had with staff members. First of all I cannot believe how rude the manager was, but the employee handling the skate rentals was also overtly rude. Never I have encountered staff at a children’s establishment so rude and obviously disinterested in their place of employment. As my first and likely only visit to this establishment, my advice to management would be to hire a competent manager, and update the skeeball and arcade games that have to be fixed constantly.

Absolutely love this place. The staff was kind and the owners have done such a good job with keeping a clean friendly environment! I love bringing my kids here and teaching them to skate. Literally my favorite place to come to escape reality, always has been, always will be!

Scott needs a raise. He was the sweetest person and helped a lot. The place was amazing and Scott made it 10 Tim’s better. 10/10 for Scott.

Well this was a surprisingly spectacular time! We had the idea to go rollerskating as a family outing during the Thanksgiving holiday because we didn’t want to get cooped up at home. I’ve never laughed so hard in my life and gotten a great workout at the same time.

The rental was pretty affordable $3 each for skates and I believe admission for $5.50 on a Wednesday afternoon. Since it was the afternoon, it wasn’t too crowded. I opted for rollerblades, but they have skates too. We ended up rollerblading for about an hour and a half. For an adult that a pretty solid workout, I’d say. But the kids there were having a blast. The lady at the front said sometimes they’ll go for 4+ hours. That’ll put the kiddos right to bed!

Anyway, we scooted around the loop, taking videos, getting our skate-legs back after years off blades. We even participated in their “stretch” game, and managed to stay in for a bit. There were some wipeouts (no injuries thank goodness), but plenty of fun and laughs to be had. I would highly recommend this for a family outing or something different to do with friends. It was a blast. Now my dreams of being a figure skater are right back at the forefront of my mind and I’m home trying to find a roller rink/skating rink in NY.

Just had my son’s 6th birthday party there. Got a great deal on one of their flash sales and kids had a blast. Very accommodating for parties and the only downside is that my older son skated until he had blisters. It’s been a few days to heal now and he wants to go back.

Very affordable as far as birthdays go and we had the party on a Sunday so the rink wasn’t crowded at all. Highly recommend!

My kids and I usually have fun going to Rollerland until the other night. After I asked some teenage boys to stop messing with my daughters belongings they started making rude and threatening comments to my 8 and 11 year old daughters. I explained to the manager that I had spoke with the kids and he said they have had trouble with them in the past. After a confrontation with a few of the teens we decided to leave. Management should have kicked them out.

    Dear management of Rollerland,

I just wanted to leave a review saying that the experience my family and I had their was amazing. My kids didn’t want to leave, and I could see why. The customer service was really good, and especially the girl at the front door! I believe her name was Brynley, and she was so kind to my family and I when checking us in, and she had a very welcoming smile and when we walked in and seen her, we felt welcomed with her smiling and greeting us in. I would like to hear back from management to be sure she knows she got a good review!

My happiest, funnest place with lifelong memories and friends!!
I’ve been skating at Rollerland the past 37 years and it’s still my peaceful safe haven, where I can be myself, relax, have fun, with or without friends, and without any judgment.

Those who have had a couple hiccup experiences, people walking on the floor, skating the wrong direction, etc., there are rules that some just don’t follow, but the floor guards do an excellent job managing as much as they possibly can. Rule breakers are everywhere and inevitable. It’s life.

Make the most of your own time. You may experience a different adventure and absolutely love it next time!

Roller skating, an amazing past time, we are fortunate to still have Rollerland we can share with our kiddos over the last 40 years the rink has been open. It certainly kept me out of trouble in my teenage years.

Go have fun! It’s worth every minute!

Thank you to the Trevena’s and all the wonderful staff over the years. I’m grateful to everyone.

We have been coming here off and on for years. This is a FUN atmosphere with great staff. Rollerskating is such a fun thing to be able to do and there are not that many rinks around anymore.

Everything is always very clean when I have been in. The staff makes the games fun. the music is always great.

This is a great place to bring kids, the family, your friends. This is just a fun hang out for anyone who likes to skate.

I mean I get the place is being run by kids, so I’m not totally up in arms over this. But we were here with my 3 daughters and every time there was a game on the rink floor led by the ref, it was very obvious that the ref was friends with 1 particular person playing. The games were clearly rigged and this one girl won time after time after time.
Like I said, they’re all kids… but it sucked for mine.

I’ve always wanted to learn how to skate. At 52, I decided I’m all in. I was very hesitant to walk in yesterday but I’m glad I did. My friend and I had a blast!
I wasn’t expecting anything fancy. Typical rink from when I was a kid! The vibe was great & the kids were having fun. That’s what it’s all about!

I’m not sure how it’s acceptable or appropriate for what my son and I saw there recently. There was an extremely young teen boy that grabbed and fondled the back side of the (much older) manager there (Amanda was the name tag). My child saw it and was asking why he was doing that. I didn’t know what to say to him. From my perspective it seems like the two of them were dating by the way she didn’t seem to mind what happened. I’m pretty sure the age difference would make it illegal in the eyes of the law. I am assuming the owner of this establishment would like to know what’s going on in his business while he is away.

It’s fun but I don’t like how you can’t request songs anymore and its so outdated. They’ve also had the same skates for at least 15 years. Song selection would make it a much better experience.

They did a stellar job at my son’s 10 year birthday party. Excellent service and so kind and fun with the kids. Great place for a kids birthday party!

Took my grandson here and was impressed with the set up, customer service, and cleanliness. It’s hard to find places for kids that actually impress you in today’s world. I will take him again.
