Best free natural history museum I have found. Great couple of hours for the whole family! Must stop if in town.
Great place. Went here for a special event they were putting on for kids… great staff, well thought out activities, etc… nothing but great things to say!
Good free museum located in the heart of CU’s campus. Great for kids, but also cool for adults and college students. When I went there were no lines and I had the whole place to myself. I could interact with the exhibits easily when I wanted to or I could just read the things I was interested in. I think this is an underrated campus resource and definitely recommend stopping by between or after classes or taking your family here when they visit.
It’s not an amazing museum — limited and academic, as are most university collections — but the price is right: free, with only a very gently suggested donation. My toddler likes visiting to play in the little experiential area with puppets and antlers, and to see dinosaur skeletons. I only come when I can park nearby without much trouble (i.e. avoiding peak student hours).
The basement includes a comfy study area that students seem to enjoy and is a great idea.
Oh my gosh!! This was so fun! I took my friend and her two year to the family day which was held at the university museum. The baby LOVED it, but it was also fun for the adults! We made little green houses, parachutes, clay animal prints, and even tested our parachutes in their wind tunnel. Looking around the museum, I would think the two year old would have been a little young for an average day at the museum, but it is great for adults. I hope they will do another family day again soon! BONUS: it was all free!
Was looking for a place for the kids on a rainy day; the Museum of Natural History was a good choice. It is relatively small, but has some interesting exhibits in the 4 wings for all ages. There are some interactive displays, that some children will enjoy. The docent at the front desk was helpful.
What challenged me was parking. There is none nearby. I guess this is true for most Universities. The GPS took me to the museum and with 2 toddlers in tow, I parked in one of the 6 non marked, empty spaces. Just to be sure I asked if I needed a visitor permit for my car, when I was told those spots were not for visitors. I needed to look for parking elsewhere. I found there was parking available approximately 1/4 mile away and across Broadway. That is an extremely busy street. There are no pedestrian crosswalks near the museum.
So fairly good museum — difficult logistics made worse on cool rainy days.
